Medicinal properties of pumpkin

Pumpkin is an extremely nutritious and alkaline food, rich in phytonutrients and antioxidants. In Bulgaria, the most respected types are the ordinary (ketenka), the violin pumpkin (a kind of nutmeg pumpkin) and the cooking zucchini. Of course, there are many other varieties of pumpkin, some of which are already found here.

Pumpkin is easy to digest and is an excellent remedy for acidosis and diseases of the stomach, spleen, liver and blood. It is high in vitamins A, E, C, B-complex and beta-carotene, iron, zinc , calcium and potassium, which are vital for healthy and strong immune and nervous systems. Carotenoids are particularly helpful in protecting against heart disease, breast cancer, and macular degeneration.

Pumpkin is also known to help reduce inflammation, which is excellent for conditions such as asthma , fibromyalgia , and arthritis . Pumpkin is a low-calorie, fat-free food, but rich in nutrients, making it an ideal choice for any weight loss or nutrition program. It can be eaten spicy with spices like black pepper, curry, or cayenne pepper, or it can be sweetened with a little maple syrup or honey with spices like cinnamon and nutmeg for a delicious bite.

The creamy and soothing qualities of pumpkin can help satisfy the appetite while properly nourishing the body and soul. Pumpkin can be steamed, baked, mashed like potatoes or mixed into soup. Pumpkin seeds are also edible. They can be dried or baked and are rich in protein, vitamins, minerals and amino acids such as tryptophan, which promotes healthy sleep.
