Maca (Lepidium meyenii) originates from South America, grows at high altitudes, in cold conditions and poor soils. One of the few plants that survive the harsh conditions of the Andes. The herb is valued and used for its edible root. Apart from being a food for the natives, it is widely distributed mainly dried and ground into powder. The concentrated content of the rich nutritional composition of vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates make it one of the favorite super foods.
